Sakarun beach: all you need to know

Sakarun is one of the most famous beaches in Zadar region and Croatia’s absolute gem. It is situated on a northwest tip of Dugi otok island that is last in the line of all Zadar’s islands. Dugi otok literally means ‘long island’ and it is indeed the largest among the islands located in this part of Dalmatia, 44,5 km long and just 4,8 km wide. More on Dugi otok island you can find on Dugi otok official website.

Villages that are close to the beach are Soline, Božava and Veli Rat.

Sakarun or sometimes called Saharun is a picturesque bay that is about 800 m long looking like Caribbean in the heart of Adriatic. Despite the fact that Sakarun beach is being located by the open sea, it’s protected by the long bay and thus always provides pleasant bathing temperatures.

Sakarun is considered to be among 10 the most beautiful beaches in the world and it gained its reputation due to white powdery sand and turquoise water that is magnificently clear.

Swimming in Sakarun beach is one of the best things you can do on the island of Dugi otok. As Sakarun is still a hidden beach, there are no hotels yet, and swimming in the beautiful bay is a truly beautiful experience. The beach is perfect choice for families with children who like spending a wonderful day at the beach and for young who seek for beautiful destinations.

The bay is wide enough so that people can spread over its length without hassle. At 250 m from the coast the sea is only 3,5 m. Its shallow waters are ideal for kids to play. Little ones can splash around and build sand castles.

On the western side of the bay there is thick pine forest that offers welcome shade in the summer.

On each end of the bay there is a snack caffe bar with basic refreshments and fast food. You can rent parasol and sunbeds so you can rest at the beach comfortably.
