Spend a full-day discovering authentic Croatia. In this day tour from Zadar to Split, you will visit the most important UNESCO and historical sites. Climb to the peak of Klis fortress. Sense the way people lived before, discover magnificent Game of Thrones filming locations and take outstanding photos at the spot.

Split is the second largest city in Croatia, known for its rich historical monuments and Roman emperor Diocletian who built the palace there. Diocletian’s palace is one of the most preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world and UNESCO site. Because of its size and all the money spent in the construction, it is believed that it accelerated Roman Empire to collapse. In Diocletian’s palace was assassinated last Western Roman Emperor Julius Nepos. Following turbulent centuries, citizens of the nearby ruined Salona, populated abandoned palace. Split’s cathedral of St Domnius is built at the peristyle of the palace, originally it was Diocletian’s mausoleum. New residents removed pagan idols, even emperor’s sarcophagus and transformed mausoleum into Christian church. Cathedral of St Domnius is the oldest cathedral in the world.

Fortress of Klis is situated at the very peak of the rocky cliff and due its strategic position it was unconquerable for many years. During the 9th century, the fortress was the seat of the Croatian royal dynasty, and thanks to its strategic position, for centuries it resisted the attacks of the enemy armies. The Fortress also served as a film set for the filming of the Game of Thrones series.

Trogir is situated at the small island between the mainland and island Čiovo, and was founded by Greek colonists in the III century BC. Trogir is considered to be the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic city in Europe. Trogir is known as the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic city in Europe, and since 1997 the entire city has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. According to National Geographic it is the most beautiful island city in the world.

In the morning you will depart from Zadar and ride towards Klis. Once you get there, you will climb to the top of the fortress situated at the top of rocky ridge. As you walk within the fort you will sense the history and learn more about the medieval lifestyle and warfare techniques. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you will be glad to find out that Daenerys, Queen of the Dragons, was passing this walls, when visiting Meereen, fictional slave land. Finally, don’t forget to capture the most spectacular view of Split and the nearby islands  from the observatory at the fort!

After visiting Klis, you will take a short ride to Split. You will visit the remarkable complex of the ancient palace and find out why did Roman emperor Diocletian chose Split as the destination where he spent his retirement. You will discover places like the Mausoleum, the statue of Gregory of Nin, the cathedral and the bell tower of St. Domnius and walk through the narrow cobbled streets with hidden passages and courtyards. After sightseeing the city, do not miss the chance to taste delicious Dalmatian food in one of the traditional restaurants.

In the afternoon departure to Trogir, which amazes visitors with its rich cultural heritage and numerous historical monuments. Stroll along the picturesque waterfront with bars, cafés and yachts. Visit the Cathedral of St. Lawrence and the baptistery to discover the best sculptural works in Croatia. Climb Kamerlengo Castle and admire the magnificent view of the old town.
After sightseeing Trogir you will return to Zadar.

RECOMMENDED AGE: appropriate for adults, kids and elderly
DIFFICULTY: Split and Trogir are not physically demanding. Klis fortress is accessible for wheelchair users and disabled. After 100 meters climb, you will reach first level of the fortress where you can enjoy in the panoramic view of Split and islands.

 take comfortable shoes, small backpack, rain coat in case of rain, lightweight jacket, bottle of water, cell phone or camera, money and your ID


It can be organised according to your preferences, even directly from your accommodation. At the end of the tour it is possible to arrange transfer back to the accommodation, staying in Split or Trogir and even drop-off at the airport.
